The Story of BMCS

THE BUTLERS MARSTON CONCERT SOCIETY is the brainchild of Lynn Carter – outstanding concert pianist, wonderful piano teacher and – very lucky for us – super enthusiastic, youthful resident of Butlers Marston. Lynn has pulled out all the stops to bring world class music right here to Butlers Marston.

Of course, not being the Royal Albert Hall, her first challenge was to get a piano. Many may have been daunted by this inital obstacle, but not Lynn! Incredibly her dreams were answered when an anonymous benefactor came forward and offered £2250 to cover the cost of a piano and its removal. Thank you! Following this wonderful act of anonymous generosity, for which the Butlers Marston Cocnert Society are extremely grateful (actually over the moon!), a fine Yamaha U3 piano has been duly installed in the church, and Lynn’s idea for a series of first class concerts has become a reality.

BMCS would like to thank their various sponsors, the Butlers Marston PCC, and especially Su & Dick Leaper for all of their support.

“Success story for village

Butlers Marston Concert Society, Church of St Peter & St Paul, August 1. ONE year old, a £2,500 loan re-paid, capacity audiences squeezed into the exquisite church and a committed team of helpers. What a success story!

And fortunately, piano recitalist Lynn Carter, an architect of this success, lives in the village. A Cambridge graduate, a Royal Academy graduate and now a Park Lane Group Young Artist, Lynn retains responsibility for securing the services of the concert performers for the six programmes in year two.

Programme One introduced violinist Charlotte Ansbergs, playing works by Elgar, Delius and Shostakoivch and cellist Francesca Blum who joined for an imaginative performance of Brahms’ Piano Trio in B major Opus 8.

Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed Lynn’s sympathetic accompaniment as she capably began the evening with delicate pieces.

In Brahms’ Piano Trio, the B major Opus 8, the tender scherzo is the opportunity for the cello to shine – and it did. By the last movement the trio are in celebratory mood before Brahms reminds them of his troubles and ends the piece in a black mood.

Verdict: A great start to year two.”
